Bomb threat prompts evacuation at Fort Pierce Central High School, officials say
FORT PIERCE, Fla. —
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a reported bomb threat at Fort Pierce Central High School.
The call came in around 12:30 p.m.
The school was evacuated while deputies and the bomb team responded to the scene.
According to Sheriff Richard Del Toro, a modified dismissal is now underway. All students who walk and drive are being allowed to leave campus first.
At that point, parents will be allowed on campus to pick up their children.
“Stay calm right now. Be patient,” Del Toro said. “We have tons of law enforcement presence here on scene, making sure we go through our protocols searching the building and making sure this campus is safe.”
The area around the school was secured as emergency crews worked to assess the situation. Additional resources were brought in to assist with the investigation.
Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area and follow instructions from law enforcement.
The investigation is ongoing.
