An officer fires three times, and Croteau falls to the ground. She sits up, appears to reach for the gun, then officers fire another 10 times, audio reveals.

She was taken to a hospital where she died.

Caleb Lemons, who was working across the street, saw it all unfold.

“She walked out of the front door like a zombie,” Lemons said.

WESH 2 spoke with Linda Croteau’s stepson, Erik Croteau, by phone. He shared she had lost her husband in August and was struggling with the loss.

“We really have no idea why my stepmother would do what she did. She was a wonderful person,” he said. “We talked with her the night before it happened, and she sounded fine. We were getting ready to move her to Georgia.”
