The Democratic legislator seeks sanctions, public records.

A state legislator and candidate for Orlando Mayor says the Florida Athletic Commission should revoke the license of a mixed martial arts promoter after an event that saw a participant make a Nazi salute, spurring a subsequent demonstration of support in the crowd that included the swastika flag.

Anna V. Eskamani says that the problems with the Duel Arena event last Saturday go beyond “what was displayed and said inside the arena” and that the principals of the promotion shouldn’t be permitted to hold events in the state ever again.

She notes that a full-contact event described elsewhere as a “special attraction death match” was “held outside the permitted card.” A “character named ‘FreakBob‘” was booked and pummeled an opponent Eskamani described as overwhelmed. The match, because it wasn’t cleared with the state ahead of time, violated Section 548.008 of Florida Statute, and would be a felony of the third degree, according to Eskamani’s read of the law.

The Orlando Democrat also takes issue with a non-sanctioned referee handling that contest: the “online streamer” Clavicular, used despite four sanctioned referees being in the Kia Center at the time. Additionally, Eskamani notes the match was not included in the official record for the show.

Eskamani also questions the unsanctioned match being in the same ring as sanctioned bouts, changes to the advertised card, and a “mismatch” between the promotion’s 202 pound founder and a 90 pound opponent that flouts weight limits.

While many public figures, including current Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and the Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Florida, took issue with the Nazi display, Eskamani’s current critique connects the hate displays with the lack of professional ethics of those putting on the event.

Eskamani seeks various public records in her letter, including licensure records for every participant, including “Clavicular,” the well-known “looksmaxxer” who had a run-in with the law earlier this year for shooting an alligator on live stream. Defenders of that action say that the animal was already dead, so he was simply defiling a corpse.
