Demolition of the former Sears store at Orange Park Mall begins, sparking community curiosity about what will replace the iconic space.
ORANGE PARK, Fla. — Demolition is underway at the former Sears store at Orange Park Mall, marking a major change.
The Sears location closed in 2020, according to our partners at the Florida Times-Union. Now, crews are tearing down the former department store as the property is cleared for what could come next.
People shopping at the mall say they’ve noticed the changes and are curious about what will eventually take the place of the longtime Sears location.
“I think if the idea does go through as like a multi-use space, it would be really good because at least it’ll draw people from the surrounding areas to come and shop if there will be like a grocery store there,” said one shopper.
Orange Park Mall did not immediately provide details about the demolition or what is planned for the space.
First Coast News reached out to property owners for more information and is waiting to hear back.
This is a developing story. More information will be added as it becomes available.
