PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Harrison Avenue in historic Downtown Panama City is receiving recognition for its ability to connect people and places.
The downtown corridor is one of four finalists for this year’s “2026 Great Places in Florida People’s Choice Awards” presented by the American Planning Association Florida.
Local businesses shared their excitement over the downtown being named as a finalist.
“I saw it on Instagram when I was doom scrolling and I was really excited because I work downtown and it’s really cool and I think this place needs more attention,” said Allison Breed who works at Portal.
This year’s theme: “Great People-Focused Places,” showcases places that create community and honor culture.
“You have the farmers market on Saturday, so it brings a lot of different people together and it’s really special,” said Joshua Nelson, a cashier at Relief Skate Supply. “It’s like nowhere else.”

APA Florida will announce the winner on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
