NTSB: Flight data, voice recorders recovered from deadly Amazon Air crash at Miami International Airport

An Amazon Air cargo plane overran a runway in Miami on Sunday afternoon, colliding with multiple vehicles and fences before coming to a stop 1,300 feet beyond the paved surface, according to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
On Monday, Jennifer Homendy, NTSB chairwoman, said the crash of Amazon Air Flight 7598, a Boeing 767-33 Alpha aircraft operated by 21 Air LLC based in Miami, occurred at 1:53 p.m.

The plane had two crew members on board and was traveling from Cincinnati to Miami, then Miami to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and back to Miami.
Homendy said on landing that the aircraft overran runway 30. The aircraft struck navigational instruments and impacted a 2012 white Ford Econoline van (owned by Professional Ocean Service Corp., a contract cleaning company for the airlines). Seven people were in the van.

The aircraft then traveled through a perimeter fence and collided with a Toyota Corolla Cross LE that was traveling on NW 67th Avenue. It continued into the grass, hitting another fence line where Tesla Robo taxis were stationed.
Homendy said the aircraft ultimately stopped about 1,300 feet past the paved surface.
She added that she went to the accident command post on Monday and walked the path from the runway past the vehicle where the aircraft stopped.
Homendy noted there was fuel everywhere and the process of removing fuel from the aircraft was ongoing.

Homendy confirmed that recovery operations, including reuniting families with their loved ones, are ongoing.
Five people were killed and five other people were injured. Homendy confirmed during the press conference that the victims were in the van and the Toyota Corolla Cross LE sport utility vehicle.
She also said the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder were recovered and will be sent to the NTSB office in Washington, D.C., for review.

The NTSB has 32 personnel on the scene investigating the crash.
