Pedestrian dies after being hit by car on US-41 and Judd Road in North Fort Myers
NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. —
A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car on US-41 near Judd Road in North Fort Myers around 9 p.m. Friday night, according to the Florida highway Patrol.
FHP says that a 17-year-old girl from Cape Coral was driving on US-41, on the outside lane, approaching Judd Road.
The pedestrian, a 59-year-old man from Fort Myers, was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of US-41 from Judd Road, directly in front of the driver.
The car hit the pedestrian, and he sustained critical injuries. He was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Drivers and witnesses expressed their sorrow over the fatal accident.
“It’s very tragic,” said driver Isabella Lapresti.
Neighbors near the scene reported seeing traffic build up as troopers investigated the crash.
“I couldn’t really tell what happened,” Javier added. “I only saw one car. Normally in these incidents, multiple cars will be there. Then I see the wrecks. I assume somebody got hit.”
Drivers in the area are now hoping there are ways to save the next life.
“Adding some lights down the street would definitely help,” Lapresti said. “those yellow, pedestrian signs with the flashing lights, possibly miles before, the next crosswalk.”
FHP says the crash remains under investigation.
