TAMPA, Fla. — The University of South Florida is breaking ground on its new Fletcher District today.
The mixed-use district will be built along North 46th Street on the university’s old golf course. The 30-acre mixed-use project will cost nearly $500 million.
University officials said the nearby forest preserve will not be touched.
The project includes more student housing, restaurants, a hotel and retail spaces. It will also include an academic research building.
It’ll be right across the street from the university’s new on-campus football stadium, which is projected to open next year.
The first phase of the new development is expected to open in fall 2028.
In March, Hillsborough County commissioners unanimously approved $24 million for infrastructure and public safety improvements.
About $10 million of that will go toward building a pedestrian bridge over Fletcher Avenue connecting the district to the school’s new on-campus stadium, opening in fall 2027.
