Tampa’s extremely-popular Indie Night concert series is expanding to The Ritz with big Halloween party

Last summer, Indie Night co-founder Andres Hernandez stared at the end of his series’ run at the now-shuttered Crowbar and told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay that the party would simply have to look for a bigger room the next time it happened.

“We’ll keep growing it,” he added, “and just kind of raise the bar for ourselves.”

The bar is apparently just a few blocks down E 7th Avenue at The Ritz Ybor where Indie Night and four bands will throw an early Halloween party on Oct. 23.

The move from a roughly 300-capacity room to another that holds over 1,000 concertgoers was a longtime coming, Hernandez said, noting that they’ve long sold-out smaller clubs plus outings at the larger Floridian Social in St. Petersburg two years ago. “We felt like we’d have enough momentum to bring this to a venue like The Ritz with the help of No Clubs,” he said.

Fans, he noted, can expect an even higher level of production, similarly great bands, but at a larger scale,

“Imagine our usual indie night energy but with three times as many people, more lights, more sound, a giant disco ball, everyone wearing costumes, and more,” Hernandez said.

Per usual, his band, Rohna, is on the bill. Expat indie-pop band Parrotfish, now based in Nashville, comes home for the gig and plays alongside the “most chalant” band in Central Florida Kitty Kitty Meow Meow along with Gulf Coast emo outfit Pavola.
