ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — St. Pete police responded to a deadly e-scooter crash Wednesday night.
It happened on 5th Avenue North near the intersection of Tyrone Boulevard North.
Just before 10 p.m., police say a 37-year-old man on an electric scooter crossed 5th Avenue outside of the marked crosswalk and against posted traffic signals.
Meanwhile, the driver of a Toyota sedan was traveling west on 5th Avenue in the outside lane.
While crossing the street, the man entered the outside lane and was struck by the sedan and thrown from the scooter. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the crash, the Toyota driver fled the scene, but was later located. Police say no charges have been filed at this time.
The investigation remains ongoing.
