Students and staff at Martin County High School were evacuated Thursday afternoon after a bomb threat was received via email, according to school officials.
In a message sent to families, school administrators said there was an increased law enforcement presence on campus as authorities responded to the threat.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a comprehensive search of the school property while students and staff remain evacuated away from campus buildings.
School officials emphasized that all students and staff are safe as the investigation continues.
“Please know that students and staff remain safe,” the school said in its notification to families. “We will provide an update once there is new information to share.”
It remains unclear whether any suspicious items have been found or how long the search will take. Authorities have not released additional details about the source of the email threat.
Parents were notified of the situation through a message from the school Thursday afternoon.
No evidence of threat found
In an update issued at 2:55 p.m., school officials said the Martin County Sheriff’s Office was finalizing its sweep of the campus and found no evidence of a threat.
Students and staff were cleared to return to their classrooms, and regular dismissal procedures were expected to continue as scheduled. School officials also said bus transportation was anticipated to operate without delays.
“Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we worked with law enforcement to ensure the safety of our students and staff,” the school said in its update.
Authorities have not released additional details about the source of the email threat.
