‘Personal estimation’: UCF professor on former Anthropic employee’s warning that AI will wipe out humanity
ORLANDO, Fla. —
A chilling warning from a former Anthropic researcher is sending shockwaves through the tech world.
An employee who resigned from the AI company has warned that AI could “kill us all” within the next decade.
Jacob Coxon, 27, who worked for OpenAI before Anthropic, said neither company is working responsibly. His concern: AI will soon be able to hack critical infrastructure.
In response, Anthropic said AI will bring both benefits and risks as the company continues to build new models with strong safeguards.
Qian Lou, an assistant professor of computer science at the University of Central Florida, joined WESH 2 News on Thursday for a live interview to break down the new information.
“I think that would be a serious problem. We should take this AI security problem seriously. But I think that’s a personal estimation from the Anthropic employee,” Lou said.
