JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Duval County Public Schools says it is reassigning teachers across the district as part of its annual staff reallocation process, driven by shifts in student enrollment.
The district notified families earlier this week, emphasizing that not every school or classroom will be affected.
“We’re reaching out to share information about an annual process known as staff reallocation that is currently taking place as a result of changes in student enrollment,” the district said in a message to families.
What is staff reallocation?
The district says staff reallocation is a yearly process that adjusts school staffing levels to match actual student enrollment numbers. As enrollment shifts — both across the district and within individual schools — staff are reassigned to keep resources aligned with student needs.
The process takes place each year after enrollment is recorded during the first two weeks of school.
What changes are taking place?
DCPS says schools that have seen enrollment grow will receive additional staff, while schools with lower-than-projected enrollment will see staffing reductions.
The reallocation will result in a net reduction of 110 teacher positions across the district, spanning most schools and all grade levels. However, the district noted that the cuts are primarily to positions — not people.
“Please note that this is primarily a reduction in positions, not people,” the district said. “Some of the positions being reduced are vacant positions.”
The district said it will work to reassign impacted teachers to available positions, based on certification, eligibility and teacher preference.
How will affected staff be supported?
Impacted staff are being notified directly by school leadership, according to the district. Officials say they are committed to supporting those employees through the transition while maintaining student-teacher ratios that support academic success.
“We are working to support these individuals through the reallocation process and are committed to maintaining student-teacher ratios that support academic success,” the district said.
What families need to know
The district stressed that families do not need to take any action at this time. While the changes are widespread, not every school or classroom will feel the impact.
“Please know that we remain focused on delivering a high-quality education and responsibly managing our resources to serve our students, families, and community,” the district said.
