ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has directed flags across the state to fly at half-staff Friday in observance of Patriot Day and the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Under the directive, flags at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout Florida will be lowered from sunrise to sunset Sept. 11, 2026, honoring the 2,977 lives lost when radical Islamic terrorists attacked the United States.
The order recognizes the first responders, local law enforcement and military personnel who displayed selfless courage in the face of terror that day, a news release states.
Patriot Day is observed annually on Sept. 11 in memory of those killed in the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil.
