ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — St. Pete College celebrated 99 years this Saturday at their annual SPC Day.

The celebration was held at the college’s Midtown Center and all along the deuces corridor. The event ran from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday. Vendors, performers and a block party are all part of the celebration.

Harold Simmons is one of the performers for the event; he is also a head custodian at the school. Simmons said his contribution to the school and the celebration is a reflection of what SPC is all about.

“It’s a representation of not only who I am, but the college alone. For them to let me and allow me to play, I’m very well known here at the college, so I’m just privileged and blessed,” Simmons said.

School leaders say they couldn’t agree more.

“St. Petersburg College contributes $3.5 billion in the last report of economic impact in the Tampa Bay Area. So, our students are getting hired and giving back to the community. So, we do amazing work. St. Petersburg College started in 1927 with 100 students; now we have over 30,000 students,” said SPC Downtown/Midtown Center Provost, Keron Jean-Baptiste.

SPC Day is free and open to the public.
