“He relates so well” | Why Joe Brady is an excellent communicator

Joe Brady is selfless. In the past, when Buffalo’s offense lit up the stat sheet, Brady praised his players. When there has been a misstep, Brady owned it. He puts his players first and knows without them, none of it’s possible.

“I love this locker room that we have, the competitiveness…what we’re building,” Brady said.

The zest Brady has for being the coach of the Bills also goes back to his mother.

“One of the reasons why my mom worked for the same company for so long was because she loved who she was working for,” Brady said. “That’s how I feel here. I love our players. I love their personalities. I want them to get what they deserve.”

To understand his players’ personalities and goals, Brady believes empathy is important.

“Just because I’m empathetic doesn’t mean I’m weak,” Brady said. “I think in order for you to be able to relate to your players, you have to be empathetic and understand what pushes them and drives them.”

“I just think he relates so well to each and every guy in the locker room,” Allen said of his coach.

Left tackle Dion Dawkins thinks Brady connects with his players on a different level because of his age.

“He’s younger. And when you have a younger coach, you naturally relate to people that are around the same age group as you. He’s like one of us,” Dawkins said.

Allen’s been next to Brady with each hat he’s worn for the Bills, from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator to head coach. He’s watched his head coach grow and mature in many ways since coming to Buffalo. Like Allen, Brady moved to Buffalo and put down roots by getting married and having a family.

As they’ve grown their relationship and grown in their roles, Brady understands he must improve to help Allen unlock his full potential.

“Josh Allen is the best player in the NFL, and I have to grow, right?” Brady said. “And part of me growing is that’s going to allow him to be a better version of himself. I’m so excited to be able to continue this journey with him. I have so much love for that man right there.”
