Miami drivers are feeling more than a pinch at the pump, with the average price of regular gasoline surging 21.5 cents per gallon over the past week to $4.17.
The Miami metropolitan area average is now 21.6 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and a painful $1.24 per gallon higher than a year ago.
The news for diesel drivers is even worse. The national average price of diesel jumped 31.6 cents over the past week to $6.183 per gallon, continuing its climb after recently breaking the previous record set in 2022.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Miami was selling regular gasoline for $3.87 per gallon, while the highest reported price was $5.99. On Key Biscayne, both gas stations remained at $5.79 per gallon.
Nationally, the average price of regular gasoline rose 17.2 cents per gallon over the past week to $4.25.
“Average gasoline and diesel prices rose in every state over the last week as geopolitical tensions escalated on multiple fronts, with friction between the U.S. and Iran, new hostilities in the Red Sea, and the shutdown of Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline all combining to jolt prices sharply higher,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
“New weekend attacks also knocked two additional Russian refineries offline, further straining global refined product supplies and likely offsetting any seasonal relief. Diesel prices could climb even faster in the wake of the new refinery attacks.”
