An 18-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly shooting his stepfather at his St. Pete home early Sunday morning, police say.
According to an arrest affidavit, a verbal argument between Damaurie Mosley, 18, and his 34-year-old stepfather broke out when Mosley snuck back into the home on 4300 block of Cherry Street Northeast shortly after 4 a.m.
The argument turned violent when Mosley reportedly drew a black handgun from his waistband. Mosley then told his stepfather and someone else in the room that he would kill his stepfather, according to the affidavit.
Mosley then allegedly cycled the slide of the weapon, ejecting a live round and chambering another. The affidavit says Mosley raised the firearm, pointed it at his stepfather and fired one round directly at him.
The shot struck his stepfather, leaving him with serious injuries, police say. According to the affidavit, Mosley’s stepfather and the other resident fled to a bedroom and barricaded the door while Mosley attempted to enter, repeating that he would kill his stepfather.
Police say that’s when Mosley left the house.
The stepfather was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, and police say he is in stable condition as of Monday morning.
St. Pete police say Mosley turned himself in Sunday evening.
The affidavit notes there was no indication of drug or alcohol influence or mental health issues. Mosley also reportedly admitted to the offense.
Mosley is being charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder. He is currently awaiting trial.
