New body camera video is showing the moments after investigators say a South Florida real estate developer drove through a home and killed an elderly man who was sleeping inside.
Allen Matis is accused of driving into a southwest Miami-Dade home on June 24. Investigators say Matis didn’t stop at a stop sign and drove across the yard and straight through the wall, pinning 82-year-old Henri Bezy underneath the SUV and killing him. Bezy’s sister Claire Bezy was also inside the house.
“You’ve been involved in an accident,” a deputy is heard saying to Bezy on his body camera.
“I know,” Bezy replies.

An arrest report says Matis was drunk driving, and specifically, driving at nearly three and a half times the legal limit.
“You are a suspect of driving under the influence, so I am investigating a potential DUI,” a detective says to Matis in the hospital.
Matis is a South Florida real estate developer with ties to the Miami Riverbridge Project, a $1.5 billion redevelopment of downtown Miami’s waterfront.
“I didn’t do this,” Matis is heard saying on the body camera.
“Mr. Matis’s consulting firm has served as a consultant on the Miami Riverbridge project. Given that this is an active police investigation, we will not be commenting further at this time,” a statement from Miami Riverbridge said.
In court last month, Bezy’s sister said she’s devastated after losing her big brother and caretaker.
“He didn’t answer when I called,” Bezy said. “I didn’t know until the next day from my next-door neighbor that he had died. I hope he died instantly.”
