LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. (WINK) — A woman is dead after a heavy vehicle went into the water at a mine in Lee County.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office confirmed her body has been recovered. The investigation is still ongoing.
The incident took place along State Road 82 at Bell Mine.
WINK News drone footage from earlier showed the scale of the recovery operation at Bell Mine. Multiple heavy-duty recovery trucks lined up along the edge of a large retention pond as crews worked along the water.
The vehicle was submerged with only the tires visible above the surface. Sheriff’s Office vehicles were also on scene as crews worked to pull the vehicle out of the water.
WINK News spoke with a cousin of the woman who died. The family said they are not ready to speak publicly about the loss at this time.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says this remains an active investigation.
