Q: I am 71, native to Miami Beach, hardly have any gray hair and felt so left out of the article on dating. What about us older folks like myself that actually still wear a bikini to the beach, no kids, etc., and young @ heart vs. an old lady? Where do we find a group to get together and have a glass of wine and chips for us older folks who still rock ‘n’ roll like we are 40? A: Susan, you are so right, the story I wrote about the decline of dating apps and how to meet people IRL (In Real Life) did not include activities targeted to the 70-plus set. This was not an intentional slight; it was just that most of the events I was seeing were aimed at younger age groups.

After I got your question, I began searching for Fort Lauderdale-area social gatherings for the older set and found lots of ways singles who like to party can meet up, including through the city’s vibrant bar scene. Here are a few ideas.

• The Young At Heart Ladies Social Group: This group offers Wine Down Wednesday, described as “Wine, Small Bites & Fun!” Their next event, on Sept. 23 at The Vintage on Harrison in Hollywood, already has a wait list. Check out their info at meetup.com.

• Speed Dating, age 60-plus: Sips & Sparks, which organizes dating events across the country, is hosting three upcoming speed-dating evenings. One is at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at Harat’s by the Sea,100 Commercial Blvd., Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. Cost is $47.87 for men and $46.93 for women. Go to eventbrite.com.

And then there’s Cougar Speed Dating: Geared toward women over 50 interested in men younger than 50, this Sips & Sparks event is set for 7 p.m. Sept. 16 at The Lobby FTL, 510 SE Fifth Ave., Fort Lauderdale. Organizers say there’s “no awkwardness, no explanations needed.
