HIALEAH, Fla. (WKRC) — A Florida mother who is accused of torturing her daughter told investigators the girl suffered a burn while they were making flan, a custard-type dessert, together in the kitchen, reports Local 10.
Gineth Ramirez, 35, was booked into jail in Miami-Dade County on Thursday, charged with aggravated child abuse with great bodily harm after authorities with the Florida Department of Children and Families began investigating burns Ramirez’s 10-year-old daughter sustained.
A child protective investigator met with Ramirez’s daughter at a learning center in Hialeah, where the girl told them Ramirez burned her on her arm and legs because she misbehaves. She also said her mother makes her sit in a chair and binds her hands to the back with rope or handcuffs.
The investigator reported seeing “what appeared to be first-degree burn marks” while a detective photographed the injuries, which included a burn mark on her right forearm, a burn on her right shin and a burn on the inside of her upper right thigh.
Ramirez allegedly claimed her daughter suffered one of the burns on her leg by dropping hot flan on it, but she couldn’t explain the other two injuries.
“The victim and she were in the kitchen cooking flan … the victim told her she wanted to eat a piece of the flan … she handed the victim the spoon with flan and told her to blow because it was hot … she handed the victim the spoon but she did not grab it and instead it fell on her leg,” according to the arrest report.
Ramirez also has a 2-year-old son. She appeared in bond court on Friday. The girl was scheduled to undergo a forensic interview the same day.
