Two people from Miami were arrested on Tuesday after their dog was found dead in a truck in the Keys, deputies said.
Miguel Jimenez, 63, and Dayany Jimenez, 40, were charged with animal cruelty.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, on Aug. 23, deputies arrived at Mile Marker 81 on the Old Highway in Islamorada after receiving reports of an injured dog.
When deputies met with the pair, they said they were at a restaurant and left the dog in the truck while the engine was running and the AC was on.
They said that when they found the truck, it turned itself off, and the dog was dead.
Weeks after the incident, the two were arrested.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was notified.
