Fort Pierce commissioners grant six-month extension for delayed King’s Landing project
FORT PIERCE, Fla. —
Fort Pierce city commissioners voted to grant developers of the King’s Landing project a six-month extension to raise $15 million for the long-delayed development.
Fort Pierce Commissioner Chris Dzadovsky expressed frustration with the delays surrounding the project.
“Well, it’s been seven years. We should be well past this process. I was disappointed in the outcome for sure,” Dzadovsky said.
During Monday night’s city commission meeting, Dzadovsky made a motion to terminate the development agreement, but the motion failed.
Current developer Bill Ware with Live Oak Holdings also attended Monday night’s city commission meeting.
“I will continue my monthly email updates, but I’ll also continue my monthly quarterly updates,” Ware said.
The commissioners voted 3-2 to grant developers the extension to raise the funding for a hotel that is part of the mixed-use development near the downtown marina.
The multi-million-dollar project is expected to include a Marriott hotel, restaurant, residential units, retail space, and a parking garage. However, the project has faced several delays over the years.
“I respectfully request that we not be held captive or accountable for this ten-year-plus period of time and prior to Live Oak being approved in the April of 2025 third amendment,” Ware said.
Officials agreed to move forward but instructed the developers to formally document their default.
“Our concerns need to be addressed in that document, or it’s not going to get approved,” Michael Broderick said.
The commissioner is not optimistic about the outcome.
“Given the seven years’ experience, I think six months from now we’ll be back to where we started today, last night,” Dzadovsky said.
Developers now have 180 days to secure the funding and move the project forward.
