Cape Coral woman discovers tracker on car, ex-boyfriend arrested after reported threats
CAPE CORAL, Fla. —
A Florida man is accused of placing a tracking device on his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle and using it to monitor her movements, according to court documents.
Christopher Concepcion, 48, was arrested Sept. 7 and faces a charge of invading privacy by installing or using a tracking device to commit a dangerous crime.
An affidavit says the woman had an active injunction for protection against Concepcion. Her daughter was driving her vehicle on Sept. 3 when she received a cellphone alert that an unknown tracker was traveling with her.
While the daughter was at work, Concepcion was accused of sending the woman numerous text messages asking why she was at a Cape Coral school, saying he could see her vehicle and noting that her daughter’s wallet was inside.
The woman later reported receiving another alert while leaving the courthouse Sept. 6. She told police that Concepcion had called her, reportedly threatened to kill her and said he had placed a tracker on her vehicle so he could find her if she left, according to the affidavit.
Detectives found a black tracking device inside the driver-side mirror housing and seized it as evidence. A search of Concepcion’s cellphone reportedly showed the tracker was connected to his Google account and was assigned to a vehicle.
Concepcion denied placing the device on the vehicle or stalking the woman. He told investigators he knew where the Jeep was because its bright-red color made it easy to recognize.
The cellphone search results and related evidence were submitted to police, according to court records. Concepcion is scheduled to appear in Lee County court Oct. 12.
