Smells like distraction: Driver applying deodorant crashes on Florida highway, FHP says

LAKELAND, Fla. (CBS12) — A pickup truck crashed into an anti-crash device and came to rest atop a concrete barrier wall on the Polk Parkway Sunday morning after its driver applied deodorant while navigating a curve, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The 22-year-old Auburndale man was driving a GMC Sierra westbound on State Road 570 near milepost 14 at about 7 a.m., FHP said in an Instagram post. No injuries were reported.

Troopers later addressed a detail that drew inquiries online, confirming the deodorant found at the crash site was a stick — not spray.

FHP used the incident to remind motorists to stay focused behind the wheel. For drivers tempted to multitask, the takeaway is simple: the deodorant can wait until the truck is parked.
