GREENSBORO, N.C. (September 15, 2026) – The University of South Florida men’s soccer team fell 5-0 on the road at UNC Greensboro Tuesday night, but a spirited second-half response gave the Bulls plenty to build on as American Conference play continues.

UNC Greensboro (2-1-4) jumped out to a 4-0 lead by halftime behind goals from Lasse Dahl, Keaviano Francis, Mason Dancy and Malo Jungling. To their credit, the Bulls did not fold. South Florida (1-6-0) came out of the locker room and squared up with the Spartans for large stretches of the second half, nearly matching UNC Greensboro shot-for-shot (4-3) and holding the hosts to a single goal across the final 45 minutes.

Junior Tyler Richardson played the full 90 minutes and delivered the Bulls’ best chance of the night, ripping a shot on target in the 57th minute that forced a save from UNCG goalkeeper Seth Wilson. Diego Sanchez paced South Florida with two shot attempts on the night, while Jakob Auby and second-half substitute Rotem Garama also created chances as the Bulls pushed forward.

Freshman Marcus Steinhaeuser turned in a steady second-half shift in relief between the posts, recording a save and helping the Bulls limit UNC Greensboro to just two shots on target after the break. South Florida will look to carry that second-half energy into its return to Corbett Stadium this weekend.

About South Florida Men’s Soccer

The oldest varsity athletic program at South Florida, men’s soccer competed in the school’s first-ever intercollegiate athletic contest on Sept. 25, 1965, beating Florida Southern 4-3.

The Bulls have claimed 14 conference championships and made 22 NCAA Tournament appearances, including three trips to the Elite Eight. On Dec. 10, 2025, head coach George Kiefer was hired for his second tenure at South Florida. Kiefer previously led the Bulls from 2002-16, compiling one of the most successful stretches in program history as the Bulls went 162-86-51 (.627), earned four conference championships, and made 10 NCAA Tournament appearances. Under Kiefer, South Florida advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2008 and 2011. His six NCAA Tournament victories remain the most in program history, and his win total ranks second all-time among South Florida head coaches.
