SAINT MARKS, Fla. — A 66-year-old Tallahassee man died after suffering an apparent medical emergency while scalloping near the historic St. Marks lighthouse, according to an update from Chief of Staff Billy Jones.
At about 10:04 this morning, the Wakulla Sheriff’s Communications Center received a call about a boater in distress. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers responded by boat, found the boater and began lifesaving measures, but the man was pronounced dead.
The Sheriff’s office says family notifications have been made.
The Sheriff’s Office is working with FWC, and the investigation remains ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
