JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A person has been taken into custody after a man was shot and killed on Moncrief Road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Police say they responded to a reported shooting in the 4500 block of Moncrief Road Wednesday evening. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue transported the man to a hospital, where he died.
JSO says multiple witnesses were detained at the scene. A suspect was also identified, located and taken into custody a short distance away from the scene.
Police say they learned a group at Clanzel T. Brown Park was playing basketball when the man and suspect begin to argue. The suspect then pulled out a firearm and shot the man before leaving the scene on foot.
JSO detectives, the Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit are collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses and investigating the circumstances that led up to the shooting.
