Behind them in the street march, another performer with orange hair, sunglasses, and a black hat stands beside a performer with dark curly hair and face makeup, set against parade barricades, spectators, and historic Ybor City storefronts under an overcast sky.Tampa Bay Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence during Tampa Pride in Ybor City, Florida March 23, 2024. For more than a decade now, Theatre eXceptional has provided performance and education opportunities for adults with disabilities. Next Thursday, the company opens its production of “The Little Mermaid,” and that shit costs money to put on.

That’s why this bunch of nuns in makeup—aka the nonprofit Tampa Bay Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, which raised more than $20,000 for charity in 2024—will perform, throw ass, and more to raise funds. DJ Silence spins at this daytime event fueled by the strongest pours in Tampa Bay.

Donations are accepted during the Mermaids & Martinis fundraiser happening Sunday, Sept. 20 at The Hub in Tampa.

Pitch in to help make the Tampa Bay Journalism Project a success.
