JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Latina-owned, family-operated business is bringing a new approach to wellness to Jacksonville’s Southbank, combining clinical care, fitness, recovery and community under one roof.
Casa Vive recently opened at 1520 Prudential Dr. inside a restored 1926 building. The company describes it as Jacksonville’s first social wellness club, a “third space” designed to be something between a gym, spa and healthcare facility.
Founder Alejandra Amegin, a U.S. Navy veteran and wellness entrepreneur, came to the United States from Mexico as a child.
“Community is core to our business,” Amegin said. “We really believe that healing is done best in community.”
Casa Vive includes coworking and gathering areas where clients can spend time before or after treatments and classes. The space in the Southbank area also offers a range of services, including yoga, chiropractic care, functional medicine, lab testing and sports rehabilitation.
Amegin said her own experience with a health scare helped lead her into the wellness industry. She also wanted to address what she sees as barriers to wellness in the Latino community.
“As a Latina, our diets sometimes aren’t the best,” she said. “We don’t go to therapy. We don’t practice meditation on a regular basis.”
Amegin said those attitudes are beginning to change, and she hopes Casa Vive can serve as a guide and resource for people from similar backgrounds. The wellness hub also incorporates Hispanic culture into its programming, creating events that combine cultural experiences with wellness.
“I think that gives people not just a place where they can come and feel at home and share that culture, but it also gives people the insight and the experience of something different here in San Marco,” she said.
The 1926 building was renovated by 820 Group, another Hispanic-owned business, which completed the club’s build-out.
Casa Vive’s clinical director is Dr. Daniel O’Leary, a chiropractor and functional medicine practitioner with more than 15 years of experience.
Casa Vive and Jax Natural Healing serve as recovery and performance partners for the Jacksonville Sharks, Jacksonville Armada and Jacksonville Icemen, as well as other athletes.
Amegin said her goal is to create a place where people can feel at home while also being introduced to something different in the San Marco community.
“This name, Casa Vive, it’s home. It’s home to me,” Amegin said. “I want it to be home to the people that come in. And I think that’s a very unique quality that we as Latinos hold is that, you know, the minute we meet someone, we embrace them fully.”
