Magnolia Avenue reopens with two-way traffic, over 100 parking spots in downtown Orlando
Magnolia Avenue in downtown Orlando now supports two-way traffic and offers over 100 parking spots as part of the city’s DTO Action Plan to enhance public spaces and connectivity.
Magnolia Avenue in downtown Orlando has reopened with two-way traffic between South Street and Livingston Street, along with brand-new parking spots, as part of the city’s efforts to create a more connected and vibrant downtown.
“This is the first real progress on the DTO Action Plan,” Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said. “We plan on two-waying a number of the streets downtown. We went from seven on-street parking spaces to 100.”
The DTO Action Plan, introduced in 2022, aims to enhance public spaces downtown and provide more options for travelers to better support businesses and experiences in the area. Magnolia Avenue is the first street to be expanded under the plan.
The city acknowledged that some drivers might experience confusion during the initial weeks of the transition but expressed confidence that they would adapt quickly.
“There’s a noticeable change to the street. Especially when you see on-street parking that is in both directions, that gives you a pretty good idea that the streets are going both ways,” Dyer said.
The enhancement was funded entirely through tax revenue from Orlando’s Community Redevelopment Agency. The city plans to next focus on Church Street, followed by the Canopy, an urban park being built under I-4, and then Robinson Street.
