MRI technician arrested in Brevard County after patient alleges sexual assault during scan
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. —
An MRI technician has been arrested in Brevard County Wednesday after a patient accused him of sexually assaulting her while she was in for her scan, according to the Port St. Lucie Police Department.
Forty-two-year-old Gabriel Cruz was the MRI technician assigned to the procedure on Sept. 13, PSLPD said.
Video evidence from the hospital showed Cruz exiting the MRI room after the victim and disposing of materials. Those materials were later secured and tested by law enforcement, police said.
The test results showed the materials were positive for the presence of male semen, according to a news release from the police department.
Police said he assaulted a 64-year-old woman at HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital who was given medication before her MRI that caused her to become significantly drowsy.
Cruz is charged with sexual battery involving a victim who was physically helpless or incapacitated.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
