JENSEN BEACH ── Say what you will about the internet, AI, or social media but I think just about everyone would agree that we really need to get off the phones more often.
Even Nickelodeon, the No. 1 entertainment brand for kids, agrees. In 2004, it established a Worldwide Day of Play, a global event designed to encourage children and parents to turn off the electronics and play together, especially outdoors.
The Children’s Museum of the Treasure Coast agrees.
For almost 20 years, the museum in Indian Riverside Park has been inspiring children and families to learn through the power of play.
This year, the museum will collaborate with Nickelodeon, hosting its Treasure Fest on the Worldwide Day of Play.
“Events like Treasure Fest give children and families the opportunity to step away from the everyday, use their imaginations, explore together, and experience the joy of learning through play,” said Christina McIntosh, the museum’s event coordinator. “These special moments may begin with a pirate adventure, but they create something far more lasting: meaningful family memories, new discoveries, and a lifelong love of learning.”
Sept. 26 at the museum will be a day dedicated to phone-free fun. This includes parents and gamers.
Pirate-themed activities like treasure hunts add to the adventure.
There will be outdoor and indoor activities.
Rumors of a meet-and-greet with a mermaid could not be verified but insiders suggest you may get some magical photos.
The museum will remain open for exploration after the event ends at 1 p.m.
