14-year-old on e-scooter dies after being struck by Orlando driver, deputies say
POLK COUNTY, Fla. —
A 14-year-old teen was killed Thursday evening after he was struck by a vehicle while riding an electric scooter in Davenport, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to the crash at about 7:55 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 27 and McFee Drive in the Four Corners area.
Upon arriving, first responders found the teen with serious injuries and transported him to a local hospital. He was later pronounced dead due to his injuries.
Deputies said the teen lived in the area and was a ninth-grade student at Davenport High School. He was riding a NIU Kick electric scooter when he was struck.
According to investigators, the teen was traveling west to east in a crosswalk when he entered the path of a northbound 2026 Ford Explorer.
The SUV, driven by a 38-year-old Orlando man, was traveling in the center northbound lane of U.S. 27. Deputies said northbound traffic had a green light as the SUV approached McFee Drive.
The driver remained at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies said no charges are anticipated at this time, but the investigation remains ongoing.
