A night of clubbing ended with one man losing a nearly $100,000 Rolex watch. No, he didn’t misplace it after a long night at the bar. Instead, he alleges that a woman he met while drinking at the Carousel Club in Hallandale Beach targeted him.
The victim claims that 32-year-old Lynda Crouse picked him up at the end of the night, where the two chatted for a while before exchanging Instagram accounts with one another. He later said that he sent an Uber for her, picking her up around 1:20 a.m. on April 12.
But this is where the victim’s recollection gets foggy, since he says he and Crouse had several alcoholic drinks before he began feeling “funny” and “extremely tired,” according to the probable cause affidavit. He says he remembers Crouse leaving after hearing a “clapping sound” and then he woke up a few hours later, which is when he realized that his gold Rolex Presidential watch was missing.
Seminole police later arrested the woman on Sept. 11 in connection with the crime. However, that’s not where her story ends. That’s because she was accused of similar crimes during additional incidents. The story has since gone viral and been picked up by several outlets, including TMZ.
The Victim Says He Suspected He Had Been Drugged When He Woke Up
According to the affidavit, the victim still felt “funny” when he woke up. He remembered the strange “clapping sound” and immediately ran to the living room where he kept the box with his Rolex. It was then that he realized his gold 40 MM Rolex Presidential watch with baguette diamond hour markers was missing.
The affidavit noted that the victim believed the “clapping sound” was actually the noise the box made when the alleged thief opened and closed it. While the unnamed man didn’t seek medical attention, he told officers that he hadn’t recovered from the feeling, and he believes he was given a drug without his knowledge.
A Signed Appraisal Claimed the Watch Was Worth $98,400
The victim later picked the woman from the Carousel Club (and later, his apartment) from a photo array. While the affidavit says that the watch was valued at just $74,350 via an internet search, the victim provided a signed document claiming it was worth closer to $100,000.
According to the affidavit, this isn’t the first time the 32-year-old woman was accused of targeting men with expensive watches at nightclubs. There were four other cases where a similar approach was taken. In each case, the victims report meeting the woman at the bar before inviting her back to their home or hotel room, where they unexpectedly fell asleep. Hours later, each victim says they woke up to find their expensive watches missing.
One Man Reported Having Prescription Sleep Aid in His System
It seems like only one of the suspected victims received a toxicology screening, which found a prescription sleep aid called Zolpidem in his system. The drug is known to cause fatigue, memory impairment, and rapid sedation. The effects are even stronger when combined with alcohol, which it appears each of these men had consumed before the thefts.
According to the Booking Blotter, the 32-year-old woman was charged with Grand Theft. She has since been released on a $2,500 bond and has been ordered to have no contact with the victim. According to the Legal Eagles website, the watch’s value could result in the woman facing up to 15 years in prison or 15 years of probation, as well as a $10,000 fine.
