Central Florida 9th grader on e-scooter killed in crash with SUV

  • September 18, 2026

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 14-year-old boy was killed after being struck by an SUV in Davenport on Thursday evening, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

In a release, deputies said the incident happened along US-27 at McFee Drive in the Four Corners area of the city. They responded to the scene shortly before 8 p.m.

“The victim was a 14-year-old male who lived in the area and attended the 9th grade at Davenport High School,” the release reads. “He was riding a NIU Kick electric scooter at the time of the crash.”

According to investigators, a 2026 Ford Explorer had been heading north on US-27, and the driver passed through the intersection at McFee Drive while the traffic light was still green.

However, the victim was heading along the crosswalk at the same time, entering right into the path of the oncoming vehicle, deputies added.

The driver — identified only as a 38-year-old Orlando man — remained at the scene following the crash.

Furthermore, the PCSO announced that no charges are expected at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.
