FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — A Fort Pierce man was caught with several kilos of fentanyl and other substances, according to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.

SLCSO says that they conducted a narcotics-related search warrant at a residence near S. 24th Street in Fort Pierce.

According to SLCSO, Tony Saunders, 48, was taken into custody at the scene after he was found with large amounts of several drugs and substances.

The haul includes 4.5 kilograms of fentanyl, 303 grams of cocaine, 97 grams of marijuana laced with MDPV, and 60 oxycodone pills totaling approximately 6.2 grams. Detectives also found ammunition, materials consistent with the preparation and distribution of narcotics, and other drug paraphernalia.

Saunders — who is a three-time convicted felon currently on federal probation, who also had two active warrants related to controlled substances — is being charged with Trafficking in Fentanyl, Trafficking in Cocaine, Trafficking in MDPV, Manufacturing Cocaine, Tampering with Evidence, and Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell.

“4.5 kilos of fentanyl are 4.5 kilos that will not reach our streets. Fentanyl is a deadly poison, and those who traffic in it are putting lives at risk for profit. I commend our detectives, SWAT Team, and the U.S. Marshals Service for their commitment to this mission. We will continue to pursue those who traffic dangerous narcotics and do everything within our authority to make St. Lucie County the safest county in Florida,” Sheriff Richard Del Toro said.

Law enforcement commonly cites 500,000 potentially fatal doses in one kilogram of fentanyl. The DEA says as little as 2 milligrams can be lethal, depending on a person’s size, tolerance and prior use.
