Parent displayed a firearm at one of South Fork High School’s bus stops

No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported, the principal says

Allen ConeSTUART, Fla. —

A parent displayed a firearm at one of South Fork High School’s bus stops on Friday morning in Stuart.

Principal Jaime Thompson sent a note to staff and families addressing the incident.

“I want to make you aware of an incident that occurred this morning at one of our bus stops in Indiantown and has since begun circulating on social media,” she wrote. “We recognize that some families may have already heard about or seen information regarding the incident. We took time before communicating more broadly to gather the facts available to us and allow law enforcement’s initial investigation to progress so that we could share accurate information without interfering with that process.”

As one of the buses arrived at the stop, the driver observed a large group of students moving toward a parent and his son.

“Recognizing that the situation was escalating, the driver immediately contacted Transportation dispatch and requested a law enforcement response,” Thompson wrote. “The driver reported that, as the incident continued, the parent displayed a firearm. No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported to the school.”

Law enforcement responded to the scene and assumed responsibility.

Thompson said limited information is available to staff and parents because it is a law enforcement matter.

“However, because this incident occurred at a school bus stop in front of students, we believe it is important that our families hear directly from us,” Thompson wrote. “The District does not tolerate violence, threats, intimidation or other conduct that jeopardizes student safety or contributes to situations such as the one that occurred this morning. Any student conduct associated with this incident will be reviewed and addressed in accordance with District policies and procedures.”

Thompson added: “We also recognize that students witnessed a concerning event this morning and that images, videos or accounts of the incident may continue to circulate. School staff are available to support any student who may need assistance as a result of what they witnessed.

Thompson concluded: “The safety of our students remains our highest priority, and we appreciate the bus driver’s immediate action in requesting law enforcement assistance.”

South Fork High School, located at 10000 SW Bulldog Way, has an enrollment of around 1,800 students.
