Armed, dangerous person leaves Palm City residence after shots fired, sheriff’s office says

An armed and dangerous person was no longer barricaded inside a residence in Palm City after shots reportedly were fired Saturday afternoon, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said.

“The Martin County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team has safely resolved the armed barricaded subject situation on Southwest Bessey Creek Trail,” the agency posted on Facebook. “We will update this when information becomes available.”

The home is located at Southwest Bessy Creek Trail near Murphy Road, the sheriff’s office earlier posted on Facebook. It is between U.S. 1 and Florida’s Turnpike.

Deputies initially responded to reports of shots fired outside the residence.

Additional calls indicated the incident was domestic-related and involved an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, the sheriff’s office said.

The person is inside the residence. Sheriff’s office road patrol, detectives, SWAT and the hostage negotiation team are on the scene working to safely resolve the situation, the agency said.

People are asked to avoid the area until further notice.
