PORT ST. LUCIE ── A joint exhibit is now on display at the MidFlorida Event Center.
The works of photographer Steve Schoenbaum and painter Jill Rance will be on display at the 2,000-square-foot Art Gallery through Oct. 28.
Jill Rance
You would never know it from her work, but Jill Rance, of Port St. Lucie, took a decades-long break from artwork.
After high school, Rance’s parents rejected her pleas to go to art school. Instead, she started a long career in the investment industry and stopped creating.
She didn’t pick up a paint brush again until she turned 61.
Thanks to a specialized therapy program, the artist began to create her abstract works as a way to revisit difficult emotions. Now, visitors can enjoy Vance’s new perspective, too. She paints with a newfound desire to “paint happy.”
Steve Schoenbaum
Photographer Steve Schoenbaum has spent decades exploring photography as a form of storytelling — with the play of light remaining a driving force in his work.
His career has taken him to galleries, museums, classrooms, and beyond.
Schoenbaum has been capturing fine art images across the United States and East Africa, where he photographed the Maasai and wildlife in conjunction with National Geographic.
Gallery hours are 8:30 a.m. –to 5 p.m., weekdays. Admission is free.
