If you’ve ever found yourself on South Beach at 3 a.m. on a weekend with nowhere else to turn, you already know about 11th Street Diner. Now the rest of the country does too!

Online gaming platform ACE.com recently surveyed 3,018 self-identified night owls and asked them to name the best places in the U.S. to eat when everything else is closed. The Miami Beach diner landed at No. 2 nationally while topping the Florida rankings — beating out two other state contenders by a wide margin.

The diner itself has a story worth telling. Built in 1948 by the Paramount Dining Car Company in Haledon, New Jersey, it originally served Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania for 44 years. In 1992, it was dismantled, shipped 1,200 miles south, and reassembled in Miami Beach’s Art Deco District. It reopened on September 11 of that year and has been feeding the after-hours crowd ever since — now open Sunday through Thursday until 11:55 p.m., and running 24 hours on Fridays and Saturdays.

Here’s what the study had to say about 11th Street Diner:

“Guy Fieri came for the pork chops. Locals come for thick burgers, milkshakes, and the feeling of stepping into a time machine. The Blueberry Ghost Burger – habanero ghost pepper Monterey jack, onion rings, homemade blueberry marmalade on a potato bun – is not your grandmother’s diner fare. The Famous Fried Chicken Sandwich, buttermilk battered thigh with pickled dill aioli, might be the best thing at 3am.”

Florida placed two other spots in the national top 15: West Palm Beach’s Havana Restaurant at No. 10, with its 24-hour ventanita window drawing lines of cars at all hours for Cuban sandwiches, and Fort Lauderdale’s The Floridian Diner at No. 14, open around the clock since 1937 on Las Olas Boulevard.

Nationally, the top spot went to Crispy Burger in Burlington, Vermont. The BIPOC-owned fast-food spot only opened in 2024, but already draws post-bar crowds on North Winooski Avenue until 2 a.m. on weekends for its fried chicken and burgers made fresh on-site.
