JACKSONVILLE – It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Stephen R. Stevens, affectionately known as Steve, who departed this life November 7, 2025. Steve was born June 25, 1948, in Vincennes. He is the son of Robert and Beatrice (Pipher) Stevens. He married Charlotte Hook on November 24, 1978.
A proud veteran, Steve served his country in the United States Navy for 23 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. After retiring, Steve worked in civilian nursing administration, where he brought his experience and passion for ensuring patient safety and care. Steve was a devoted member of Roosevelt Drive Church of Christ and actively participated in Kiwanis.
Steve found great joy in being outdoors and was an avid hunter. He enjoyed woodworking and was also a history buff, particularly when it came to WWII knowledge.
Steve’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Charlotte Stevens; his children; Heather Horner, and her husband Ben, Gerald Stevens, and his wife Cori, brother; Richard and his wife Debbie, sister-in-law; Janet Stevens, grandchildren; Eli Horner and his wife Emily, Spencer Horner and his wife Seanna, Walker Wilson, and great-granddaughter Remi.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Beatrice Stevens, infant brother, his son Samuel Stevens. We know that Steve is also rejoicing to be reunited with his recently departed brother William (Bill) Stevens.
Steve will be remembered for the love he has for his family, and the kindness, warmth, and humor he brought to everyone around him.
