Clay County authorities find no evidence of drink spiking at Ridgeview High School homecoming dance

  • September 21, 2026

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says investigators have found no evidence of drink spiking, tampering, or drug use following rumors that circulated on social media after Ridgeview High School’s homecoming dance Saturday night.

In an update released Sunday evening, the sheriff’s office said three students reported medical issues during the event. Two students were taken to a hospital by EMS out of an abundance of caution and were released after a short stay. A third student was not transported.

According to investigators, the students who were taken to the hospital were drug tested and no drugs were found in their systems.

Rumors online suggested drinks may have been spiked during the dance, with some posts mentioning fentanyl. However, detectives said they followed up Sunday with the students involved and their parents and, at this time, have “no reason to believe there was any sort of drink spiking, tampering or drug use.”

Before the sheriff’s office released its latest findings, some parents told News4JAX they were concerned by what they had heard.

“I do know he said that there were some things that happened,” one mother whose child attended the dance said. “To hear that there was, you know … drugs there and people spiking the drinks and stuff like that, that’s a bit alarming.”

Another parent told News4JAX, “I expected the school with as much security as they say they have to do better.”

The sheriff’s office said deputies and school administrators were on site throughout the evening. Students were searched before entering the dance, large bags were prohibited, only small clutch-style purses were allowed and outside food and drinks were not permitted.

Officials said the only concessions sold on site were sealed bottled water, pizza and Pelican’s SnoBalls.

“The safety and well-being of our students is always our top priority; we take every report extremely seriously,” the sheriff’s office said.

The investigation remains active, and detectives say they will continue following up on any leads that come in.
