KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Some LYNX passengers could see changes to their bus routes and schedules beginning in December.
The transportation agency is proposing system-wide changes that include discontinuing some trips, changing several routes and adjusting schedules across Orange and Osceola counties.
LYNX is holding an information session Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Kissimmee City Hall. Passengers will have an opportunity to learn about the proposal and provide feedback.
In Osceola County, LYNX proposes to eliminate four early-morning or late-night trips on Link 10 between the Kissimmee Intermodal Station and U.S. 192 at Live Oak.
Two early-morning weekday trips on Link 56 would also be discontinued. Link 426, the Poinciana Circulator, would lose two weekday trips and undergo other schedule adjustments.
Major changes are also being proposed for Link 407, which connects Kissimmee, Orlando International Airport and Medical City. The route would use Landstar Boulevard, Meadow Woods SunRail and Wetherbee Road instead of State Road 417.
That route would make all local stops between the Kissimmee Intermodal Station and the airport. Daily service to Lake Nona would be reduced.
LYNX spokesperson Matt Friedman said ridership has been low in the Lake Nona area. He said the agency wants to put more bus service between the airport and downtown Kissimmee, where ridership has been stronger.
The proposal would also discontinue Link 701, the Orange Technical College shuttle. LYNX said passengers could use NeighborLinks 811 and 812 as a replacement.
“The 701 was a route that was designed for the new school when it opened, and the ridership really wasn’t there,” Friedman said. “But our NeighborLink service will fulfill those needs because of how it is an on-demand type service where you can book those trips and we’ll come and pick you up.”
NeighborLink is an on-demand service that allows passengers to book a trip and be picked up and dropped off within a defined area.
“This is your service. We want to hear your feedback. So that’s why we’re having these information sessions,” Friedman said. “So you can’t tell us that you want to see some changes to the service if you don’t give us that feedback.”
LYNX will hold two additional information sessions Tuesday. One will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. at the LYNX Central Station. A virtual session will be held from 6 to 7 p.m.
A public workshop and hearing are scheduled for Sept. 29 at the LYNX Central Station. Written comments will be accepted through 5 p.m. Oct. 12.
The LYNX Board of Directors is scheduled to vote on the proposal Oct. 22. If approved, the changes would take effect Dec. 13.
