CAPE CORAL, FL — A Cape Coral man was arrested for DUI and DUI Property Damage after officers responded to a traffic crash that left a vehicle in a canal during an impaired driving operation.

On September 18, 2026, the Cape Coral Police Department conducted an impaired driving operation from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. During the operation, additional officers were deployed throughout the city specifically looking for drivers suspected of operating vehicles while impaired.

During the operation, dispatch received a report of a reckless driver traveling on Chiquita Boulevard. Officers were alerted to the vehicle description and began checking the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Moments later, dispatch received a report of a traffic crash involving a vehicle that had entered a canal near the 2900 block of SW 17th Avenue. The vehicle description matched the one provided in the earlier reckless driving call.

A witness at the crash scene reported seeing Carson Michael Williams (DOB 08/27/1997) behind the wheel of the vehicle. An officer was able to safely remove Williams from the vehicle.

As officers conducted their investigation, they observed multiple indicators of impairment, including bloodshot and watery eyes, a strong odor of alcohol and slurred speech. Williams was asked to participate in standardized field sobriety exercises.

Based on the investigation, Williams was arrested and charged with DUI and DUI Property Damage. He provided two breath samples, which registered .218% and .205%.

Williams was later transported to the Lee County Jail.

The Cape Coral Police Department reminds drivers that impaired driving puts everyone on the road at risk. Officers will continue to focus on identifying and removing impaired drivers from Cape Coral roadways.
