Tallahassee State College unveils multi-million dollar plan for new Wakulla Co. facility

  • September 21, 2026

WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) – Tallahassee State College (TSC) unveiled its plan to invest millions in Wakulla County for a new facility.

During a press conference in Crawfordville Monday afternoon, TSC said the new facility will bring together programs already offered in the county and expand training within high-demand fields.

In total, it’s set to be a $27.3 million project for the new workforce training center.

The building will replace the current Wakulla campus in Crawfordville, consolidating everything onto one campus, according to TSC Vice President for Work Development Shelly Bell.

Students will have the chance to train for careers in healthcare, education, environmental science, marine service technology and construction trades.

The college is also addressing a shortage of qualified teachers in rural counties with a new teacher preparation pathway.

TSC District Board of Trustees Chair Christian Caban said that the college wants students to have options to prepare them for the workforce.

“Wakulla County is growing, and what this is going to do, this is going to lay a great foundation for workforce preparation, for job training,” Caban said.

More news out of the Big Bend:

Portions of the new building will also double as a hurricane shelter for storms up to Category 3, boosting emergency response and disaster recovery in the community.

An official timeline for when the facility will be built has not been released.

College leaders said the new center is designed to grow with Wakulla County, preparing students for jobs and the community for the next storm.

“I just hope that for generations and generations to come, we’re able to make a difference in Wakulla County,” Bell said. “We’re able to provide the workforce training that individuals need that will help to fuel the economy down here and allow them to continue to grow.”
