CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) — The City of Cape Coral will begin changing speed limit signs on local residential roads as part of the implementation of the city’s Area-wide Neighborhood Speed Limit Study.

City crews will replace current 30 mph speed limit signs with 25 mph signs on applicable residential roadways in Cape Coral.

The sign changes implement the recommendations of the city’s speed limit study, which evaluated speeds on residential streets. The goal is to improve roadway safety and support a safer environment for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists.

During installation, Cape Coral Police officers will warn drivers who exceed the new 25 mph speed limit. The city will issue an additional public notice when the warning period ends, and the 25 mph speed limit will become enforceable through citations.

Residents may notice city crews working along roadways during the implementation period.
