TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Drivers are feeling the squeeze after gas prices jumped roughly 21 cents last week, AAA said.
On Friday, Sept. 18, the average in Florida rose to $4.33 per gallon, the highest since May 2026, as crude oil prices continued to push fuel costs up.
Oil prices are also the highest they’ve been since May and have risen nearly 27% during the last three weeks, AAA said.
By Sunday, the per-gallon average had lowered slightly, down to $4.30, AAA said. That’s 15 cents more than a week ago, 35 cents more than a month ago, and $1.16 more than this time last year.

AAA said prices remain volatile as ongoing conflicts in the Middle East create uncertainty in global oil markets. Daily jumps and drops of a few cents will likely continue as worries about supply levels persist.
