TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Leon County leaders are set to meet Tuesday afternoon to discuss the county’s state and federal legislative priorities for 2027.
“The upcoming legislative cycle is going to be unlike those in the past,” said Nicki Hatch, assistant to the county administrator for legislative and strategic initiatives.
One topic on the county’s radar is Amendment 3, a proposed property tax reform measure that could significantly reduce local government revenue if voters approve it in November.
According to the county’s workshop agenda, if approved, Leon County is projected to lose about $71 million in property tax revenue during the first two years. That includes roughly $65 million in general property tax revenue and another $6 million for emergency medical services.
Hatch said the county wants to be prepared for whatever changes may be ahead.

“Amendment 3 is going to be extremely consequential for Leon County, so our priorities seek to best position us so as opportunities come up, for example, to pursue state funding or federal funding, we are ready to go,” she said.
The county is also preparing for changes in state leadership and a new congressional district representative in Washington, D.C., who will represent Leon County.
Hatch said the goal Tuesday is to protect essential services while identifying opportunities for additional state and federal funding.
The Leon County Legislative Priorities Workshop will be at 4 p.m. in the County Commission Chambers.
